The Kaduna State Comptroller of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Mr. Liman Sani Kila, has disclosed that the security agency has arrested more than 1500 illegal immigrants in different parts of the state ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Mr. Sani Kila made the disclosure while talking to newsmen in Kaduna when he was parading the illegal immigrants at the command’s headquarters.
According to the Immigration boss, the illegal immigrants were armed with Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and national identity cards issued from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
NIS investigation revealed that the immigrants were from Niger Republic, Chad, Cameroon, Togo and even as far away as Senegal.
Kila stated that those arrested were undergoing profiling and would be deported to their various countries of origin.
He said that in a previous sting operation, the agency arrested more than one thousand illegal immigrants whereby in another operation, some 516 persons were arrested.
The Immigration boss further explained that in the last year’s mop up operations, the command retrieved 1,000 PVCs from illegal immigrants arrested within Kaduna Zone.
