An uncultured police officer is currently under fire after a video surfaced online showing him making an ethnic statement while interacting with a motorist during a roadside stop on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
The motorist, who identified himself as a UK returnee in the video, was travelling when he was stopped at a police checkpoint.
He presented his vehicle documents and his driver’s licence for inspection.
According to the video, the officer returned the vehicle documents but withheld his driver’s licence.
The corrupt officer demanded money, but the UK returnee refused, insisting he had committed no offence and that the officer should carry out his official duties instead of asking for bribe.
The officer later requested the waybill for his luggage after he declined to give him money.
In the viral video, the officer is seen repeatedly asking the motorist to leave the scene without stating any traffic offence.
During the face-off, the officer said: “I just see that we are very close. If you were Igbo or another person, I would have just I’d have asked you to park…” before gesturing toward the roadside.
Meanwhile, the video has stirred widespread condemnation on social media, with many Nigerians describing the remark as discriminatory and calling for disciplinary action against the officer.
