Violence During Anambra Guber Will Be Met With Strong Response — Ribadu

(DDM) – The National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has issued a stern warning that any attempt to instigate violence during the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election will be met with a strong, coordinated, and decisive response from security agencies.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Ribadu gave the warning during a high-level security meeting in Abuja, where he addressed concerns over possible pre-election tensions, political thuggery, and threats by non-state actors ahead of the November 8, 2025 polls.

According to Ribadu, the Federal Government will not tolerate any breakdown of law and order in Anambra or any part of the Southeast during the electoral period.

He stressed that security agencies have been fully mobilized to ensure a peaceful, free, and credible process.

“We are aware of the activities of some groups and individuals planning to disrupt the election through violence, intimidation, or propaganda,” Ribadu said. “Let me make it very clear, such acts will be met with immediate and firm action.

The government is determined to protect every voter and ensure the will of the people prevails.”

DDM learned that the NSA has directed the Inspector-General of Police, the Chief of Defence Staff, and heads of other security agencies to deploy personnel and intelligence assets across Anambra to forestall any form of unrest before, during, and after the election.

Ribadu also called on politicians, party supporters, and community leaders to caution their followers against engaging in hate speech, thuggery, and vote manipulation.

He reminded all stakeholders that democracy thrives only in an atmosphere of peace and respect for the rule of law.

He noted, “Elections are not wars. Politicians must understand that leadership is about service, not violence. The Federal Government has no interest in partisan outcomes but will ensure that the electoral process remains safe and transparent.”

Security experts who spoke to DDM described the NSA’s statement as timely, given the rising political activities and growing apprehension in parts of the state.

In recent months, reports of clashes among rival party supporters and attacks on campaign vehicles have fueled fears of potential unrest during the poll.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has also expressed concern over the security situation, particularly in flashpoint areas like Ihiala, Ogbaru, and Nnewi South, urging the government to guarantee the safety of electoral officials and voters.

Meanwhile, traditional rulers and civic groups across Anambra have applauded Ribadu’s firmness, calling for greater synergy among federal, state, and local security agencies to prevent criminal infiltration during the election.

As campaigns enter their final phase, the Federal Government’s message is clear, Anambra’s election must reflect the will of its people, not the influence of fear, violence, or coercion.
