A viral video has stirred massive controversy online after a pastor claimed that Opay Bank, one of Nigeria’s leading fintech platforms, would soon shut down operations.

The clip, shared by X user @ChuksEricE, shows an unidentified preacher prophesying that the company will experience “technical issues” before allegedly closing between December 2025 and January 2026.

“Opay Bank is about to close. One day, they will tell you the bank has technical issues. From there, they will stop operating,” the pastor declared during the service.

Despite the viral nature of the video, the pastor’s name and church location remain unknown. The claim has not been verified by any credible source or regulatory authority.

Financial experts and social media users have dismissed the prophecy as baseless fear-mongering, warning Nigerians to be cautious about spreading panic online.

The video has sparked widespread reactions across social media. Some users laughed off the prophecy as another attempt to gain attention, while others expressed concern over the safety of their funds.

No Official Response from Opay Yet

As of the time of this report, Opay has not released any official statement addressing the viral claim.

The company, known for its digital banking and mobile payment services, remains one of Nigeria’s most trusted fintech platforms, with millions of daily users across the country.
