Controversial Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi has claimed that the Federal Government of Nigeria is aware of the identities and locations of terrorists operating in the country.
Gumi made the statement during an interview on DRTV, where he responded to allegations that he maintains close ties with bandits and terrorists while advocating on their behalf.
The cleric said his interactions with armed groups were part of efforts to facilitate dialogue and peace, insisting that such engagements were carried out with the knowledge and involvement of security agencies.
“The government knows every terrorist by name and location,” Gumi said. “I don’t go alone to negotiate I go with the police, military and other security agencies.”
He explained that during some of the visits, he also consulted traditional leaders, including local emirs, before entering forests where armed groups were believed to be operating.
According to him, some of the trips into the bush involved accompanying delegations that included women and community representatives in attempts to promote dialogue and de-escalate violence.
Gumi has previously played a controversial role in efforts to negotiate with bandits in northern Nigeria, with supporters describing his approach as a path toward peace while critics argue it could embolden criminal groups.
