We’ll compensate graduate whose leg was crushed by our truck — Dangote

Dangote Cement Plc has pledged full medical support and compensation for Mrs. Ruth Otabor, a young graduate who tragically lost a leg after being hit by one of the company’s trucks in Auchi, Edo State.

In a heartfelt statement issued on Thursday, the company expressed its commitment to the victim’s recovery and well-being, detailing the swift actions taken in response to the incident.

Following the accident, senior officials from Dangote Cement, along with their insurance team, promptly visited the scene, engaged with law enforcement, and later met with Mrs.

The statement reads: “This action reflects our unwavering commitment to the well-being of those affected. We are ensuring full support for Mrs. Otabor, including comprehensive medical care and appropriate compensation, in line with Dangote Group’s welfare policy. Our thoughts remain with Mrs. Ruth Otabor and her loved ones, and we wish her a full and speedy recovery”.

The accident, which occurred near Auchi Polytechnic just days after Mrs. Otabor graduated, has left her with life-altering injuries.

Her right leg was amputated, and doctors fear her other leg may also require amputation due to the severity of her injuries. The motorcycle rider who was carrying her at the time remains in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command confirmed that the truck driver—allegedly underage and unlicensed—has been arraigned in court, where he pleaded guilty to three of the four charges against him.

The case has been adjourned to August 21 for further proceedings.
