We’re Unstained By Simon Ekpa’s Finnish Court Judgment — IPOB

The Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) have washed their hands off the recent judgment that sentenced the self-acclaimed Prime Minister of Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE), Barrister Simon Ekpa, to six years in prison.

In a public briefing signed by Human Rights Advocate and Contributor to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu Global Defence Consortium, Barr. Christopher Chidera stated that IPOB is “unstained” in Barrister Ekpa’s ordeals.

Barrister Chidera cited a “malicious article published on iBrandTV”, dated 1st September 2025, and stressed that the Finnish court cleared IPOB and insisted that “Nigeria’s ruling parties are the real terrorists”.

The article was authored by Marshal Bassey with the headline “Simon Ekpa’s Conviction: How the Igbo Biafra Dream Died a Natural Death”.

Reacting, Chidera stated: “This hatchet piece is a shameless fabrication that collapsed under the weight of verifiable judicial records.

“It is propaganda designed to dampen the resilient spirit of Biafrans but instead exposes the intellectual emptiness of its author and his sponsors.

1. Finnish Court Judgment: IPOB Unstained

“The Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland sentenced Simon Ekpa personally to six years’ imprisonment on charges of participation in a terrorist organization, incitement, tax fraud, and professional misconduct.

“The Court never mentioned IPOB in its ruling. IPOB testified under oath that Ekpa was never a member and held no office in the movement.

“Ekpa himself admitted under oath that he was only a “content creator” and had long disowned IPOB.

“If IPOB were guilty, Finland had the perfect opportunity to indict it. The Court declined to do so because no evidence exists against IPOB.

“This silence is itself exoneration.

2. Canadian Court: PDP and APC as Terrorist Organizations

“In sharp contrast, the Canadian Immigration Appeal Division expressly ruled that Nigeria’s ruling parties, PDP and APC, are terrorist organizations due to their sponsorship of political thuggery, election violence, and bloodletting.

“The Canadian tribunal stated:

““There were reasonable grounds to believe that the PDP engaged in terrorism and subversion of democratic institutions… Applicant’s membership to the PDP was sufficient…”

“Thus, Nigeria’s state parties carry a certified terrorist stain abroad, while IPOB remains squeaky clean, lawful, and recognized internationally.

3. Marshall Bassey’s Propaganda Exposed

“Marshall Bassey’s reckless attempt to bury the Biafra dream through falsehood is pitiful. He deliberately ignored the legal reality that IPOB is a lawful registered movement in Finland, operating transparently within the ambit of international law.

“His article is nothing but a paid smear job designed to launder Nigeria’s image while defaming IPOB.”

Warning to iBrandTV and Its Author

Chidera told iBrandTV and Marshall Bassey that IPOB is not, and has never been, a terrorist group.

According to him, IPOB is a global self-determination movement anchored in law and justice.

He, therefore, warned that “any further attempts to defame IPOB will be met with lawsuits, international petitions, and reputational demolition.”

He insisted that the Biafra struggle is not dead and cannot die, as it is rooted in the universal right to self-determination, justice, and freedom.

“If PDP and APC—condemned abroad as terrorist parties—continue to exist in Nigeria, then IPOB, which has passed the scrutiny of foreign courts without a stain, will continue to march forward with greater legitimacy.

“Biafra lives. Nigeria is the entity branded by terrorism abroad—not IPOB,” he added.
