What Trump Just Said About Netanyahu’s Trial Will Leave You Speechless

In a shocking social media outburst on Wednesday, June 25, U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly demanded that the Israeli government cancel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s corruption trial or grant him a pardon—sparking backlash and confusion in both Washington and Tel Aviv.
Taking to his Truth Social platform, Trump described Netanyahu as a “Great Hero” who should not be dragged through a trial he compared to his own legal woes in the U.S.
“Bibi Netanyahu’s trial should be CANCELLED, IMMEDIATELY, or a pardon given to a Great Hero who has done so much for the State [of Israel],” Trump wrote.
Netanyahu, who was indicted in 2019, is currently facing charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust in a highly publicized trial that began in 2020.
The cross-examination phase, which began on June 3, is expected to last up to a year, Israeli media report.
President Isaac Herzog holds the constitutional authority to pardon Netanyahu, but has signaled no intention of doing so.
“No such request has been made,” Herzog reportedly told local outlets, adding that a pardon is “not on the table.”
Trump didn’t stop at words of support. In the same post, he boldly declared:
“It was the United States of America that saved Israel, and now it is going to be the United States of America that saves Bibi Netanyahu.”
Though vague, Trump appeared to reference U.S. military and diplomatic backing of Israel during its recent confrontation with Iran.
However, his tone toward Israel has been inconsistent—just a day earlier, he scolded the Netanyahu government for launching massive strikes on Iran immediately after a ceasefire deal.
“Israel, as soon as we made the deal, they came out and dropped a load of bombs, the likes of which I’ve never seen before… I’m not happy with Israel,” he said, calling the attacks “the biggest load we’ve seen.”
Trump concluded with a crude summary of the region’s decades-long hostilities:
“They’ve been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f**k they’re doing.”
Trump’s remarks have reignited debate over political interference in foreign judicial systems, executive overreach, and whether Netanyahu’s legal fate should become entangled with U.S. election politics.
As Trump campaigns for another term, his praise for Netanyahu and attacks on Israel’s legal institutions may resonate with far-right allies, but is likely to inflame tensions within the U.S.-Israel alliance—at a time when both leaders face escalating domestic and international scrutiny.
