Who Leaked Atiku’s Letter? – Aide Breaks Silence

Paul Ibe, media adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has blamed members of the PDP and APC for leaking Atiku’s resignation letter.
He said the leak was a deliberate move to sabotage Atiku’s future in the 2027 presidential race.
Speaking on Arise News on Wednesday, night, Ibe revealed that Atiku submitted the letter on July 14, 2025.
He added that Atiku never intended it for public release. Ibe insisted that political actors opposing Atiku released it one day after former President Buhari’s burial to stir tension.
“We are here because people who have never wished His Excellency Atiku Abubakar well decided to leak his personal communication,” Ibe said.
Ibe was reacting to earlier criticism from Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo. Keyamo had accused Atiku of timing his resignation to overshadow a national mourning week.
President Buhari was buried on Tuesday, July 15, in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State. President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and top officials attended the burial.
Keyamo posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating that Atiku had a right to leave the PDP. However, he called the timing suspicious. Keyamo said Atiku’s action was meant to shift national attention away from Buhari’s death.
“Your Excellency, while I recognize your right to leave any political party, sharing your resignation during a week of mourning clearly redirects national attention to yourself,” Keyamo wrote.
He also criticized Atiku for using Nigeria’s Coat of Arms in the letter. According to him, it violates Section 6 of the Flag and Coat of Arms Act. Keyamo described it as unethical and unlawful.
He argued that, as a lawyer and public servant, he had a duty to defend Nigeria’s laws.
In his reply, Ibe dismissed Keyamo’s comments as a cheap distraction. He advised the minister to focus on aviation issues instead of playing politics.
“It’s unfortunate the Aviation Minister is more interested in politics than fixing unsafe runways and broken airport systems,” Ibe said. “Commenting on issues he doesn’t understand is like blaming a crash before investigation.”
He also questioned those who accused Atiku of poor timing. “Are they clairvoyants?” he asked.
Ibe claimed that APC operatives and PDP insiders leaked the letter together. He said their goal was to destroy Atiku’s credibility ahead of 2027.
Atiku’s aide, Abdul Rasheeth, posted the letter online on Wednesday. The letter, addressed to the chairman of Atiku’s Jada 1 ward in Adamawa, cited “irreconcilable differences” with the PDP leadership.
In the letter, Atiku thanked the party for past opportunities. These included his service as Vice President and two presidential nominations.
However, he wrote that the PDP had strayed from its founding principles. He said staying in the party had become impossible.
