Why ADC is Too Small for My Political Weight — Lamido

Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has dismissed rumours that he plans to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He described the party as a “smaller skin” that doesn’t match his political journey.
During a press interview in Kano on Tuesday, July, 22, Lamido reaffirmed his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He said the PDP remains his political home despite its ongoing internal challenges.
“The PDP may have problems,” Lamido stated, “but I cannot abandon my political history and legacy. I won’t shed my skin to wear a smaller one called ADC.”
Lamido once served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and later as Jigawa State Governor. He said these roles were made possible by the PDP and that he would not turn his back on the party.
Still, he showed openness to alliances ahead of the 2027 general election. Any arrangement that would help secure Nigeria’s future is welcome, whether it’s inside or outside the PDP.
“I believe in Nigeria,” he said. “Whatever political plan works best for the country, I am ready to support it.”
Lamido also dismissed ongoing calls for the creation of more states in Nigeria.
He argued that adding states won’t fix key problems like insecurity, hunger, and poverty.
“Will more states end hunger? Will it solve the North-South divide?” he asked. “We have more urgent issues to tackle.”
He then pointed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a source of national division.
According to Lamido, the APC government has failed to bring Nigerians together, despite promises of unity.
He also commented on Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso’s recent visit to President Bola Tinubu.
Lamido said Kwankwaso had every right to take such political steps but didn’t reveal whether he approved of the meeting.
With this statement, Lamido made it clear he’s staying in the PDP.
His remarks also show that he’s open to political coalitions that serve Nigeria’s interests ahead of the 2027 elections.
