The above is the question that has been used to mobilised many gullible people into aligning with the senseless free Nnamdi Kanu political campaign by Sowore and his co-travelers.
Such argument betrays a pathetic level of ignorance or deliberate mischief by those promoting the argument. The following points are some of the reasons why the comparison between Nnamdi Kanu’s case and those of the Northern bandits granted amnesty does not make sense;
1. Bandits and terrorists who are released and reintegrated into the society must have accepted that they did something wrong and made a commitment to being of good behaviour. Nnamdi Kanu insists that he hasn’t committed any crime, that it is within his rights to do the things he did.
2. The only place Nnamdi Kanu can advance such an argument and assert his right to continue doing the things for which he is being prosecuted is in court.
3. The President cannot rewrite Nigeria’s Constitution because of Nnamdi Kanu. The coward who ordered the massacre of our Igbo brothers and sisters and the burning down if our land, insists that he did the right thing. Let him prove it in court.
4. Nnamdi Kanu is a leader of a terrorist group, the IPOB and ESN. The Nigerian government has not forgiven any leader of a known terrorist group. Almost all of them that have been caught, were either eliminated or sent to prison. Nnamdi Kanu at the same level with Shekau of Boko Haram, etc.
5. Hundreds if not thousands of IPOB and ESN bandits who willingly surrendered their weapons and repented have been granted amnesty by the Imo State government under His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON.
6. If Nnamdi Kanu admits that he was wrong and commits to peaceful and legal methods to whatever he wants to do, he would be leaving a room for a possible political solution to his matter.
7. Amotekun which some of you compare to the ESN is a government security outfit enabled by laws passed by the six States House of Assembly in the Southwest. ESN is a terrorist outfit set up by Nnamdi Kanu with the explicit instruction to cause mayhem in the Southeast and disrupt legitimately instituted governments across the Southeast and parts of South-South.
8. President Tinubu has never granted amnesty to any violent group since he became President. Governors of Katsina and other States in the North have been the ones granting these amnesties. Federal troops have been merciless in dealing with troublemakers and terrorists across the country.
9. Even until this moment, any ESN bandit who voluntarily surrenders his weapon and accepts the amnesty declared by the Imo State government, will be spared prison, rehabilitated and reintegrated into the society.
10. Nnamdi Kanu can become the hero his followers have made him think he is, if he is able to advance logical arguments before the court to justify what he did. If he is also able to reasonably deny these actions which the Nigerian government has linked to him, he will also walk free.
