President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday responded to criticisms on the alleged slow nature of his administration, saying he adopted the style deliberately so that he would not make mistakes.

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the President gave the explanation while receiving a delegation of Women In Politics Forum at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

While defending the records of the administration in response to criticism that it is slow, Buhari was quoted as arguing that steps must be taken with caution to avoid mistakes.

He said any mistake by his administration would be a disaster for the country.

“People say we are slow. We are trying to change structures put in place by our predecessors in office for 16 years. If we hurry it, we will make mistakes. That will be a disaster,” the President said.

The President also said that the fight for the return of the Chibok girls is ongoing and “continues to be a most worrying issue” to his government.

He promised that his administration will do all within its powers in making the best efforts to secure their freedom.

The President acknowledged the case made by the WIPF for better representation of women in his government and assured that women would fare well in the composition of parastatals and their boards in the first quarter of the year.

He also assured them that the country has a budget proposal for the new year that is good for employment and manufacturing.

“By the end of the second quarter, the full impact of these positive measures will be felt,” he told the visiting women.

I’m Slow But Calculative, Says Jonathan, 02 Jan 2012

“I am slow at taking decisions to avoid costly mistakes,” President Goodluck Jonathan said Sunday (2/1/12) in Abuja.

Speaking at a New Year church service at the First Baptist Church, Garki, the president said he opts to think things over when faced with challenges as he would “rather prefer to err on the side of caution” than do anything for which he would be negatively remembered.

He added that leaders were not remembered for their mistakes but for what they did right.

“When I’m challenged, I think more, I don’t rush to take decisions. I listen more to people. That is why at times it looks as if I’m slow. I also know that when people rush to take decisions, they also make a lot of mistakes.

lot of people only celebrate their successes and not their mistakes,” he told the gathering.

Jonathan, who attended the service with his wife, Patience, and his mother, Ayi, called for more prayers as his government works assiduously to fix the country and admonished Nigerians to have the hope of catching up with advanced countries.

“The journey will be tough; it’s not going to be too painful anyway because I also know that leaders who bring pain on their people always end up badly. Leaders who think they are so powerful always end up badly and no leader will want to be reckoned with as one who brings pain to the people.

“We are all writing our history, whatever you sow as a leader, even if you are dead and gone, the story will be told how you brought pain on the people; so nobody will bring pains on Nigerians.

“So our commitment is that by May 29th, 2015, Nigerians will look back and say we made the right choice by voting for people who have done well for us. Because we have also looked at the elections, our court processes have affirmed that it was an election all of you worked for, first time we will conduct election with minimal controversies. Of course there were crisis but we knew why they came up it was not because of the election.
