Why I Endorsed Tinubu’s Re-election — Emir of Daura

The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruq-Umar, has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said his support stems from the respect and honour Tinubu gave the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Emir made this statement on Saturday at his palace in Daura, Katsina State.
He hosted a delegation of Nigerian governors’ wives led by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu. They had come to condole with Buhari’s family over his death.
Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State received the delegation and accompanied them to the palace. The Emir, now 97 years old, stood up repeatedly to mention Tinubu’s name in gratitude.
He praised the president for what he called an unprecedented gesture.
“I am thankful to President Bola Tinubu, a good person I’ve known for 30 years,” the Emir said. “I have never seen a more befitting state burial for anyone like what Tinubu did for Muhammadu Buhari.”
He noted that Tinubu personally attended the funeral, spent days in mourning, declared a national public holiday, and provided a presidential jet to convey Buhari’s corpse.
He added that the president also sent the First Lady, the Vice President’s wife, and governors’ wives to show respect.
According to the Emir, this show of loyalty will not be forgotten.
“We will reciprocate in 2027. This is why we are going for Tinubu,” he declared.
Earlier, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu explained that their visit went beyond protocol.
She described Buhari as a trusted family friend, whose death felt like a personal loss to her husband.
“We are here because this loss is deeply personal,” she said. “President Tinubu has lost not just a former Head of State but a friend of over 30 years.”
She described Buhari as a man of integrity and discipline who brought pride to Daura and the entire nation. She prayed for Buhari’s soul and urged the grieving family to find strength in Allah.
