Why Mason Greenwood could technically return for Man United next week

Published

on

Mason Greenwood could technically return for Manchester United as of next week, according to information provided by The Athletic.

Greenwood is under investigation by Greater Manchester Police over allegations of rape, assault, sexual assault and threats to kill. He has not been charged with any of the aforementioned and is currently out on bail.

The 20-year-old was ‘suspended’ by Man United after the allegations came to light. He will have been ‘suspended’ for two weeks as of Sunday this week – which would, in theory, allow him to return to the fold.

According to legal information provided in the report by The Athletic, Premier League clubs are only allowed to suspend players for two weeks, on full pay. Technically, Greenwood COULD return next week.

As is mentioned in the report, the nature of the allegations against him make it unlikely that Greenwood would pursue an immediate return to the fold at Old Trafford, but it’s intriguing nevertheless to know the legal intricacies of this sensitive situation.
