Authorities in Texas have disclosed the reason behind the unfortunate death of British-Nigerian nursing student, Tamilore Odunsi, who was fatally stabbed just days before her graduation.

Police have identified Odunsi’s roommate, 40-year-old Chester Lamar Grant, as the primary suspect in the incident.

Investigators revealed that the fatal attack stemmed from a dispute between the two over their pet cats.

According to Houston police, the argument escalated and led Grant to stab 23-year-old Odunsi multiple times in their shared Houston apartment.

Officers discovered her body during a welfare check on April 26, after noticing blood on the back patio.

Grant was also found inside the apartment with self-inflicted stab wounds, including one to the neck, in what authorities believe was a suicide attempt.

The two had only been living together for about two months prior to the attack, according to reports by local news outlet KHOU 11.

Grant was hospitalized in critical condition following the incident.

However, on May 3, he was formally charged with murder and booked into jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, May 5.
