Why Obiano Will Lose Anambra APGA Second Term Ticket

With the recent developments in the All Progressives Grand Alliance [APGA], all indications are that the incumbent governor, Willie Obiano will not fly the party’s flag come the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State.

First and foremost, Governor Obiano shot himself in the foot when he took a stand against the court-approved chairman of the party, Ochudo Martin Agbaso.

Obiano, rather, chose to flex with the ousted chairman, Ozo victor Oye.

To buttress his uninhibited disgust on Martin Agbaso, he hired 18 legal luminaries, including 6 Senior Advocates of Nigeria [SANs], to fight and upturn the turn decision that brought Agbaso into power.

Not done with that, Obiano swore never to reconcile with Agbaso and even walked him out of his house when the latter sought to do so.

According to an insider close to Obiano’s camp, Ochudo Agbaso went to Obiano’s house to seek for peace.

Obiano, however, walked him out and said he would not have anything to do with Agbaso.

According to a close observer of the developments in Anambra State, Mr Uche Ezechukwu, “Chief Agbaso took the initiative of knocking on every door to seek reconciliation.

“He consulted almost every power broker in Anambra State. He made several overtures to Governor Obiano which were rebuffed.

“He was personally taken to Governor Obiano’s house by a very prominent and respected political figure from Anambra State and Obiano insulted and tongue-lashed him and this man.”

Recall that in 2013, Obiano said he was begged to become governor and he reluctantly accepted.

Well, in 2017, Agbaso, the national chairman of APGA also went to beg him again and this time he refused and walked him out of his house.

Now that Agbaso went and saw and conquered, one wonders how magnanimous he could be to give Obiano APGA ticket again.

In the words of our correspondent, “How can you abuse and walk out a man that came to your house for peace and reconciliation and except favour from him again, after buying all the best lawyers in Nigeria to humiliate him?” he asked rhetorically.

“It is clear Obiano is no longer interested in second term, stop abusing Agbaso, Obiano is not contesting, he only came to destroy APGA and Ojukwu legacy,” he concluded.

Add that up to the recent Supreme Court judgement that handed the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] chairmanship baton to Senator Ahmed Makarfi, a faction where Obiano’s successor, Mr Peter Obi belonged.

If and when Mr Obi decides to wield the arsenal of power and influence at his disposal, no one will be left with any iota of doubt where Obiano will be flung:

“To Houston swimming pool where he swims under Congo music,” our correspondent quipped.
