Samuel Anyanwu was reinstated as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to a Supreme Court ruling that overturned his removal.
The court decided that the matter was an internal party affair and shouldn’t have been subject to judicial intervention.
Additionally, the court ruled that the plaintiff lacked the legal standing to challenge Anyanwu’s position.
The apex court delivered a judgment in favor of Anyanwu, paving the way for his reinstatement.
The PDP aimed to restore order and unity within the party, especially with crucial elections approaching.
The party sought to comply with electoral regulations and have its leadership recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) formally ratified Anyanwu’s reinstatement during its 100th meeting in Abuja.
Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum announced the decision, emphasizing the party’s commitment to unity and electoral readiness .
Despite this development, some party members expressed dissent, with 11 members of the National Working Committee rejecting Anyanwu’s return, citing procedural issues and questioning the NEC meeting’s cancell
Damagum stated that the decision reflects the position of the party’s highest decision-making body.
Anyanwu, a widely known ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, had been at the center of internal disputes within the PDP leadership in recent weeks.
“The NEC has affirmed Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary,” Damagum said, addressing reporters after the closed-door session.
Meanwhile, the party has scheduled its 101st NEC meeting for July 23 to finalise arrangements for the upcoming national convention.
