Why Wike is afraid of opposition coalition — ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has responded to Minister of FCT Nyesom Wike’s scathing remarks against the opposition coalition.
On Wednesday, the coalition, comprising key opposition leaders like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Presidential Candidate of the LP in 2023, Peter Obi, and other opposition leaders, formally unveiled the ADC as its new platform on Wednesday.
But Wike during a media parley dismissed the coalition, saying it lacked the capacity to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Meanwhile, in a sharp rebuttal, the ADC spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, attributed Wike’s remarks to fear of the coalition’s potential threat to the government.
Bolaji Abdullahi said: “Without justifying this behaviour that we find incompatible with the office of a Federal Minister, we believe Wike could only descend to that level because of his mortal fear of the threat that the successful unveiling of the coalition of opposition political parties constitutes to the government that he serves.”
Abdullahi accused the Tinubu administration of failing to keep promises to Nigerians, citing unpaid salaries of primary school teachers and treatment of FCT workers.
The ADC highlighted the government’s failures, including poverty, misery, and insecurity in the FCT.
Abdullahi stated that the coalition movement belongs to the Nigerian people, who have been promised renewed hope but served renewed hopelessness.
“No amount of tirade against the leaders of the coalition could stem the tide of this popular movement”, Bolaji Abdullahi added.
