Wike builds Abuja, other ministers only talk on TV – Sheriff
DDM News

Former Borno State Governor and political heavyweight, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has lauded the performance of the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, stating that his accomplishments outweigh the criticisms about his personality.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Senator Sheriff made these remarks during an interview aired on Channels Television, where he addressed issues of performance and governance within President Tinubu’s cabinet.
Sheriff, known for his blunt political commentary, described Wike as “a rascal,” yet insisted the minister’s visible achievements in Abuja cannot be dismissed.
“I’m not a fan of Wike,” Sheriff began frankly.
“You can describe him, his character is a character of a rascal.”
“But you cannot take it away from him that he has changed Abuja,” he asserted.
He emphasized that no other minister since the capital’s creation had worked with Wike’s pace or tenacity.
“From the time Abuja was created up to this moment, nobody worked like him,” Sheriff claimed.
“So people like me ignored his rascality because he’s working,” he said.
Senator Sheriff criticized other unnamed ministers who he accused of underperforming while misleading the public.
“There are ministers that are not working,” he said.
“They are lying to Nigerians.”
“And it is not the president’s problem,” he added.
“What we are seeing, the president, we tried to tell him,” he said, suggesting that President Tinubu might not be fully aware of the level of inefficiency among certain appointees.
Sheriff praised the work of the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, citing his efforts in transforming Nasarawa State’s mining sector.
He noted that Alake, despite being from Ekiti, had made substantial contributions outside his state of origin.
“I was angry when I saw some of these things,” Sheriff said.
“The governor of Nasarawa, when the president visited, said that Dele Alake had turned their state into an industrial city,” he recounted.
“He didn’t do it in Ekiti, he did it in Nasarawa,” he emphasized.
Returning to the subject of Wike, Sheriff reiterated that tangible achievements must outweigh political sentiment or personal grudges.
“Wike is not from Abuja. He’s from Rivers. He changed Abuja,” he said.
“But some of them just talked on television,” Sheriff concluded.
The comments have sparked renewed debates across political circles and social media, with many weighing the balance between performance and personality in leadership.
As 2027 approaches, analysts say public discourse may increasingly shift toward results-driven politics rather than party loyalty or regional bias.
