The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has condemned the killing of Arise News anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, vowing that those behind the crime will face justice.
In a statement released on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications, Lere Olayinka, Wike described Maduagwu’s death as a heartbreaking tragedy that has shaken the country.
“I feel pained that such a wonderful soul could be cut down in its prime. It is sad!” the minister said.
Wike extended condolences to the management and staff of Arise News Channel, stressing that the loss was not only theirs but also a blow to the entire Nigerian media industry and the nation.
He assured the public that the police have been directed to investigate the killing thoroughly.
According to him, the FCT Administration is already working closely with security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are tracked down and brought to justice.
“This administration will give full support to the security agencies to unravel the truth and deliver justice,” Wike pledged.
The tragic killing of Somtochukwu has sparked outrage across Nigeria, with calls for stronger protection of journalists and a more proactive approach to urban security in the FCT.
