The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) witnessed a tense political gathering on Sunday, May 11, 2025, in Abuja.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) confirms the high-level meeting took place at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in the Federal Capital.

The presence of Minister of the FCT and former Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, dominated media and political conversations nationwide.

Wike’s arrival was made public through a tweet by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, sparking online speculation and interest.

The tweet read: “Wike arriving at Bauchi Lodge for the meeting of current and former PDP governors.”

This tweet ignited debates on Wike’s role in the party, given his close ties to the APC-led federal government.

The PDP is battling internal cracks, and this meeting was seen as a desperate attempt to rebuild party unity.

Analysts view this gathering as critical to repositioning the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike’s participation raised eyebrows due to his previous clashes with party leadership during the 2023 election period.

Despite friction, his presence suggests a possible reconciliation or strategic shift within the PDP leadership structure.

Governors from several PDP-controlled states were already present before Wike’s arrival at the Abuja venue.

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State was among the earliest to arrive for the crucial political engagement.

Also present were Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Oyo’s Seyi Makinde, and Adamawa’s Ahmadu Fintiri.

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu and Zamfara’s Dauda Lawal later joined their colleagues at the meeting.

The diversity of attendees reflected a national spread and heightened the weight of the closed-door session.

Several former governors and influential party elders also participated in the gathering, suggesting broader internal consultations.

The PDP Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, was reportedly central to the planning and execution of the meeting.

Ahmed Makarfi, Board of Trustees Secretary and former Kaduna Governor, brought his experience to the gathering.

Former Bayelsa Governor, Senator Seriake Dickson, joined the meeting alongside other heavyweight former state executives.

Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, and Samuel Ortom of Benue were also in attendance.

Bukola Saraki, ex-Senate President and former Kwara Governor, added political weight to the already packed lodge.

Babangida Muazu of Niger and Adamu Muazu of Bauchi, both former PDP leaders, were also sighted.

Former Sokoto Governor and ex-Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal brought national legislative experience to the gathering.

Sule Lamido of Jigawa and Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom further underscored the session’s significance.

Insiders say the discussions centered on reconciliation, party discipline, and preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The PDP seeks to recover from recent defections and power struggles that weakened its 2023 electoral showing.

Party members now view such meetings as make-or-break sessions for PDP’s national relevance and survival.

While the meeting was closed-door, its symbolism sent strong messages to party loyalists and opponents alike.

Wike’s presence has rekindled discussions on factionalism, influence, and potential betrayals within the PDP power structure.

Observers wonder if the meeting signals his comeback or a tactical move ahead of 2027 realignments.

The PDP leadership is reportedly planning a national convention to settle leadership disputes and craft fresh policy directions.

Sunday’s event could lay the groundwork for a strategic blueprint toward reclaiming power in future elections.

As internal struggles persist, the PDP remains under pressure to demonstrate unity, competence, and electoral preparedness.

Political watchers believe more of such meetings will follow as the 2027 political calendar approaches.

The PDP’s future may depend on how it manages power dynamics between veterans and current officeholders.

Will unity triumph over ambition, or is another internal implosion on the horizon? Only time will tell.
