A 30-year-old woman named Hauwa Yusuf has been arrested by the Special Tactical Squad (STS) after an AK-47 rifle and four magazines were discovered hidden in a sack of garri she was transporting.
The arrest occurred during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.
Muyiwa Adejobi, the spokesman of the Force disclosed this while parading suspects at the STS Headquarters in Abuja on Friday.
The suspect while making confessional statement said that Aminu Basullube, a notorious bandit known for tormenting Katsina State, had instructed her to collect the weapons from Danum Madam Camp, a notorious area in the state.
Adejobi stated, “On August 14, 2024, acting on intelligence, STS operatives intercepted Hauwa Yusuf, a 30-year-old from Dutsin-Ma LGA of Katsina State. She was traveling from Lafia, Nasarawa State, to Katsina State in a Sienna bus along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway. During the search, an AK-47 rifle and four magazines were found concealed in a white sack of garri. Upon interrogation, she admitted that Aminu Basullube had sent her to collect the arms.”
When questioned by newsmen, Yusuf claimed she was unaware of the contents of the sack, believing she was only transporting millet.
Yusuf said, “I didn’t know it was a gun. They asked me to bring millet, but instead, they sent me with garri. Even when I saw it, I was scared. I was paid N130,000 to take the garri to Katsina, with my transport fare being N15,000. I made a mistake by not asking more questions”.
