Woman killed by accidental Police gunfire in Ekiti

A tragic incident occurred in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Thursday when a police officer accidentally discharged his rifle, killing a woman.

The event took place opposite an Okela police post, where the woman had gone to visit her detained husband.

The officer’s accidental gunfire struck the woman, who was standing in front of a salon opposite the station.

Despite rushing her to the hospital, doctors pronounced her dead.

The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, AIG Akinwale Adeniran, confirmed the incident.

He stated that authorities have disarmed and detained the officer involved for interrogation, in accordance with the police act.

This swift action aims to ensure a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accidental discharge.

This incident underscores the critical importance of firearm safety and vigilance among law enforcement personnel.

As the investigation progresses, the community mourns the loss of life and seeks answers to prevent future tragedies.
