WWE Superstar dies at 60

The wrestling world is mourning the loss of Sabu, a former WWE superstar who passed away at the age of 60.

Terry Brunk, popularly known as Sabu, was a prominent figure in the 1990s ECW hardcore wrestling scene.

He was known for his high-flying, extreme matches that often featured tables, ladders, chairs, and barbed wire.

Sabu’s wrestling career spanned over three decades, during which he worked for various promotions, including ECW, WWE, Total Nonstop Action (TNA), World Championship Wrestling (WCW), New Japan Pro-Wrestling, and Mexico’s AAA.

He was a two-time ECW world heavyweight champion and won the World Television Championship and three tag team titles.

One of Sabu’s most notable moments came when he was part of the ECW Originals, a faction that defeated The New Breed at WrestleMania 23 in 2007.

Despite his memorable victory, Sabu was released from WWE just a month later.

The wrestling community has paid tribute to Sabu’s legacy, with WWE issuing a heartfelt statement expressing deep sadness and honoring him as “a pioneer of hardcore wrestling.”

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) also posted a message in his honor, highlighting his contributions to the sport.

Taz, a fellow ECW standout and current AEW announcer, expressed his sadness over Sabu’s passing, saying, “I would not have had the career that I have had, and I’ve been blessed to have, if it wasn’t for Sabu. That man got me over, and he didn’t have to get me over, and he did. A great heart and soul. I’m gonna miss him immensely.”

Sabu was trained by his uncle Ed “The Sheik” Farhat, a wrestling promoter and wrestler.

He began his career in 1985, wrestling in various independent promotions under different ring names.

Sabu became a fixture in ECW, known for his high-flying, extreme matches featuring tables, ladders, chairs, and barbed wire.

He held multiple championships, including the ECW World Heavyweight Championship twice and the ECW World Television Championship.

Sabu also made appearances in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, winning the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship and the UWA World Junior Light Heavyweight Championship.

He had a brief stint in World Championship Wrestling and later joined WWE as part of the relaunched ECW brand, but his tenure was cut short due to his release in 2007.

Throughout his career, Sabu wrestled for various promotions, including Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) and All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW).
