X to End Creator Revenue-Sharing Programme

Social media platform X has announced plans to discontinue its current creator revenue-sharing programme in September as part of a major overhaul of how users earn money from content on the platform.

The company said creators enrolled in the existing programme will receive their final earnings before the scheme is replaced with a new initiative known as the Original Content Rewards Program.

According to X, the current revenue-sharing programme will officially end on September 7, 2026, while the final payment to eligible creators is expected to be made on September 11.

The platform said applications for the new programme will open on September 8, subject to creators meeting its eligibility requirements.

Creators will be able to check their eligibility through Creator Studio, where a dedicated Original Content Rewards section will be made available.

X said creators who have already completed identity verification and connected a valid payment method will not need to repeat the process when applying for the new programme.

“Today, we’re introducing the Original Content Rewards Program — a new way for creators to earn on X by sharing original content and contributing meaningfully to the conversation,” the company said.

The platform explained that the new programme would place greater emphasis on original and distinctive content, including breaking news, expert analysis, personal experiences and creative work.

X said the change was aimed at rewarding users whose contributions help drive meaningful conversations and engagement on the platform.

The company said: “X has always been powered by people who share something only they can: breaking news, expert insights, unique experiences, creativity, and commentary that moves culture forward.”

“We want to reward the people who make X worth opening every day, so we’re evolving how creators earn here.”

The change means creators who currently depend on X’s revenue-sharing programme will have to apply for the new scheme from September 8 and satisfy the platform’s eligibility requirements to continue earning from their content.

Creators are therefore expected to review their accounts and ensure they meet the requirements ahead of the transition.

The announcement marks a significant change to X’s creator monetisation system as the platform seeks to place more emphasis on original content rather than the existing revenue-sharing structure.
