Nollywood actress Yetunde Bakare has spoken out about the misunderstanding surrounding her and colleague Toyin Abraham following the circulation of an alleged leaked voice note involving Abraham and a fan.
Bakare explained that her experience of repeated online attacks from supporters of Abraham, popularly known as Titans, contributed to the controversy that erupted after she commented on a social media post relating to the leaked recording.
The actress said she often faced criticism whenever she commented on posts concerning Funke Akindele, with some of Abraham’s supporters allegedly targeting her for expressing support for the filmmaker.
According to reports published on October 16, 2026, Bakare said the repeated attacks made her feel that she was being singled out simply because of the person she supported in the entertainment industry.
The controversy began after a private audio recording, reportedly featuring Abraham and a TikTok personality identified as Bisgold, circulated online on October 14. In the recording, which has not been independently authenticated, the fan was heard making disparaging remarks about Akindele, while Abraham appeared to laugh at various points in the conversation.
The recording sparked widespread reactions, with social media users debating Abraham’s alleged response to the comments about her colleague.
Amid the backlash, actress Regina Chukwu shared a post addressing the issue of people secretly recording private conversations. Bakare subsequently left a comment on the post, writing that she had much to say about the situation but would not speak at that moment.
Her comment attracted criticism from some social media users, prompting her to defend herself and explain her position in a video.
Bakare maintained that she was not aware of the leaked audio when she initially commented on Regina’s post. She also questioned why expressing support for another actress had become a reason for people to attack her.
The actress had earlier pushed back against the criticism, asking whether her offence was supporting someone openly and wholeheartedly.
She further challenged those accusing her of enjoying the ongoing disagreement between the actresses, questioning how they could claim to know her intentions.
Bakare’s explanation has added another dimension to the controversy, shifting attention towards the role of celebrity fan communities in escalating disagreements among entertainers.
The rivalry between supporters of Akindele and Abraham has repeatedly generated heated exchanges online, with fans often interpreting public comments and interactions as evidence of loyalty to one actress or hostility towards the other.
However, Bakare’s position highlights the distinction between supporting one entertainer and actively campaigning against another.
The controversy also comes amid renewed public attention on the relationship between Abraham and Akindele, following reports of tension between the actresses and the circulation of the alleged private conversation.
While the authenticity and full context of the leaked recording remain important considerations, the reaction to it has demonstrated how quickly celebrity disputes can spread beyond the individuals directly involved.
Bakare’s comments have therefore renewed calls for fans to respect differing opinions and avoid turning entertainment preferences into personal attacks.
Supporting Funke Akindele does not automatically mean disliking Toyin Abraham, just as being a fan of Abraham does not require hostility towards Akindele. Both actresses have established their own audiences and careers in Nollywood, and their supporters can celebrate their achievements without turning their differences into an online battle.
