“You Can’t Talk Me Down” — Veekee James Fires Back at Critics Over Filters

Nigerian fashion designer Ruth Erikan James, popularly known as Veekee James, has reacted to criticism from social media users over her use of Snapchat filters in a recent video.

The video sparked mixed reactions online, with some users questioning her reliance on filters, while others defended her, insisting that using such features should not attract backlash.

One Snapchat user came to her defence, describing the criticism as unnecessary and praising her appearance.

“So it’s this video someone was dragging you with? Just because it’s double filter Anyways, you loooook amazing and I hope that whatever anyone is saying about you doesn’t affect you,” the fan wrote.

Responding to the comments, Veekee James dismissed the criticism, stating that she was simply making use of the tools available to her as a content creator. She added that she has no reason to feel insecure about her appearance.

“My dear ask me o Please I don’t want to laugh ooo… why am I on Snapchat as a creator if I will not enjoy the features! I’m the last person anybody can talk down on in the area of beauty like I’m a full babe,” she said.

The designer further emphasised that her beauty is an essential part of her identity and brand, which she confidently leverages in promoting her work.

“I carry beauty for head dey sell am Una wan see natural beauty Abi? Oya wait! Now wey I wan show you natural beauty I how say Una no go say I dey show off I say make I use filter jeje so that peace go reign Una no gree…Oya now,” she added.

Her response has since fueled further conversations online about beauty standards, social media filters, and the expectations placed on public figures in the digital age.
