YPP Not In The Race To Win Anambra Governorship Election

The Anambra State governorship election is only days away. Governor Chukwuma Soludo is traversing the length and breadth of the state — presenting his scorecard, engaging the people, and working tirelessly to earn their trust for another four years.

In stark contrast, Mr. Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) and his disoriented followers appear unbothered and uninspired.

Their energy is not directed toward convincing the electorate or articulating a vision for Anambra’s future, but rather toward trolling Hon. Peter Uzokwe.

They are making baseless accusations that he is attempting to erase the political legacies of the late Distinguished Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

The truth, however, is far from their narrative. Those who today control YPP are the very political adversaries who once failed woefully under the APC banner.

Having regrouped, they hijacked YPP with the sole aim of dismantling everything Senator Ubah stood for.

Their mission has never been about governance or public service — it has been about vengeance and destruction. And sadly, they have succeeded far too well.

They have systematically alienated and silenced all who once identified with Senator Ubah’s political family.

Meetings were held to exclude his loyalists, including those elected into the Anambra State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives on the YPP platform.

Local government executives in Anambra North were unceremoniously dissolved, while members in Anambra South were rendered irrelevant.

Today, that once cohesive political family — with vibrant groups like Afa Igbo Efuna, Ubahnation, Transformation Agenda, Ifeanyi Ubah Women, and Ikemba Front — is scattered across other parties.

It is therefore not surprising that no true disciple of Senator Ubah remains in the current YPP structure.

The spirit and essence of that movement are long gone.

Much ado about Hon. Peter Uzokwe

Much has been said about Hon. Peter Uzokwe’s election victory and how he achieved it.

What matters is that he did win — and today, he stands tall in the Green Chamber as one of the most active and vocal lawmakers in the House of Representatives.

His presence there is both a personal triumph and a testament to his credibility.

When YPP sought a credible candidate in 2023 — one with an unblemished record, integrity, and grassroots appeal — Uzokwe fit that description perfectly.

Unlike 2019, when the YPP’s magic did not extend beyond Senator Ubah’s Senate victory, Uzokwe’s candidacy drew strength from his own remarkable track record.

Hon. Peter Uzokwe’s stewarship

As President General of Ozubulu Development Union, Uzokwe distinguished himself through visionary leadership and unmatched commitment.

Without major financial backing, but through goodwill and selflessness, he achieved transformative feats as follows:

  • the complete rehabilitation of the Ozubulu Divisional Police Station,
  • the renovation and fencing of community courts,
  • the establishment of a School of Health Sciences, and,
  • the modernization of the Joint Hospital.

He also strengthened community security with vehicles, motorcycles, and patrol systems for the local Vigilante Service.

Under his leadership, Ozubulu witnessed unprecedented growth — including the construction of what is now regarded as the finest town hall in Anambra State.

His performance earned him the 2019 ABS Award for Best Performing President-General in Anambra State.

Beyond Ozubulu, Uzokwe served on the Executive Council of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU).

The position allowed him to build bridges across communities and strengthen relationships throughout his constituency and beyond.

By 2023, he had become one of the most admired personalities in Anambra politics — a man of proven character, service, and substance.

It is no wonder that the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah saw him as a trusted ally and teammate.

The current YPP, however, has drifted far from that spirit of integrity, vision, and collective purpose.

What remains today is a shell of opportunism — a platform for those who seek nothing more than to have their names remembered on the ballot as former governorship candidates.
