Yuletide: Ikot Ekpene LG unveils 2024 Raffia City Christmas Village

In the spirit of the Yuletide celebrations, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area has taken a bold step toward unity and cultural preservation by unveiling the 2024 Raffia City Christmas Village.

 

The event, which officially commenced on December 2, 2024, aims to bring the community together in a spirit of love, peace, and development.

The grand opening ceremony was spearheaded by Hon. Aniefiok Enkom, Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Council, along with key stakeholders from the area.

 

The Christmas Village, a festive initiative showcasing the region’s rich cultural heritage and supporting local entrepreneurship, is poised to become a hallmark of the festive period.

 

Speaking at the during the event,Hon. Enkom stressed the significance of the project in fostering harmony among the diverse people of Ikot Ekpene, irrespective of political or social affiliations.

“The 2024 Christmas Village is more than just a celebration,” Hon. Enkom declared. “It is a unifying platform that reflects our cultural richness and offers a means to support local artisans and entrepreneurs. This initiative stands as a testament to our commitment to improving lives and promoting peace.”

 

The Council Boss,expressed gratitude to the people of Ikot Ekpene for their unwavering support in making the project a reality. He also reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to empowering local businesses, announcing that kiosks had been provided free of charge to some indigenes to encourage economic participation.

“This project is for you,” Hon. Enkom told attendees. “Our administration is focused on entrepreneurship and improving citizens’ welfare. By creating this platform, we are helping our people earn a living and build a brighter future.”

 

He appreciated his predecessor, John Clinton, who initiated the idea of the Christmas Village. “I deeply appreciate the efforts of John Clinton, whose vision birthed this initiative,” he said. “It gives our people a chance to celebrate, earn, and embrace a hopeful future during the festive season.”

In his speech, an esteemed Member,representing Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara State Constituency, Hon. Jerry Otu echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that the Christmas Village would serve as a catalyst for economic growth while promoting social harmony.

“This initiative not only provides a space for relaxation and enjoyment during the Yuletide season but also contributes to the economic development of our local government,” He remarked.

He however ,revealed his efforts to support local entrepreneurs by securing four kiosks and offering financial assistance to enhance their businesses.

 

Also speaking,Senator Ibok Essien, the Political Leader of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, assured attendees that the Christmas Village was here to stay and would foster both community cohesion and development. He there fore,encouraged the youth to focus on hard work and building a brighter future, rather than engaging in begging, which he said was not part of the local culture.

 

Senator Essien also praised the efforts of the Council Chairman and the event organizers for the successful execution of the Christmas Village.

 

“The Raffia City Christmas Village is here to stay,” Senator Essien affirmed. “It will continue to promote cohesion and prosperity within our community. To the youth, I urge you to embrace hard work and creativity. Begging is not part of our culture, and this initiative offers you a platform to thrive.”

The opening ceremony was marked by vibrant displays of cultural heritage. Traditional dancers and local artists, including the celebrated Solototo, entertained the crowd with lively performances. Dramatic presentations and exhibitions further highlighted the creative talents of Ikot Ekpene’s residents.

The event reached its climax with the official opening of the Christmas Village by Hon. Enkom, alongside dignitaries and stakeholders. The evening concluded with a shared sense of pride and optimism, as attendees looked forward to a season of celebration and unity.

It is worthy to cognizant that, the 2024 Raffia City Christmas Village stands as a beacon of hope and progress, embodying the essence of the Yuletide season while paving the way for economic and cultural growth in Ikot Ekpene.
