Zamfara: Bandits abduct 10 community members, demand N50m ransom

Terror bandits have kidnapped 10 villagers in Moriki community in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State and demanded N50 million ransom.

According to media reports, the criminal elements raided the community on Wednesday night, August 21, 2024.

A resident of Moriki community told the BBC Hausa Service on Thursday, that the bandits were disturbing the community and had earlier kidnapped other locals.

“The bandits claimed that their cows were killed by the Commander in the community,” the resident said.

“They attacked the community and went from house to house picking our people, and gave today as the deadline for us to pay the N50 million.”

He said any time they needed money, the bandits had often attacked the community to kidnap people and kept them in captivity until ransom was paid

“Not long ago, they collected N20 million from community members to allow the locals access their farms. The community is not secured at all.”

Meanwhile, the spokesman of the State Police Command, ASP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident, saying that the Commissioner of Police had directed the operatives to swing into action and rescue the victims.
