Zelensky Urges US To Pressure Russia To End War

(DDM) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on the United States to exert greater pressure on Russia to bring an end to the ongoing conflict, stressing the urgent need for continued military and economic support.

Speaking ahead of renewed peace talks, Zelensky emphasised that US leadership and decisive action remain crucial to achieving a sustainable resolution to the war that has devastated Ukraine’s eastern regions.

He highlighted that additional arms supplies, enhanced sanctions, and diplomatic backing are necessary to strengthen Ukraine’s position at the negotiation table and deter further aggression.

DDM gathered that Zelensky described the current international support as insufficient, arguing that stronger intervention could accelerate the cessation of hostilities and save lives.

The President noted that while multiple countries have offered assistance, only coordinated pressure led by the United States could compel Russia to seriously engage in peace negotiations.

Zelensky stressed that the conflict continues to inflict heavy civilian casualties and disrupt critical infrastructure, with millions displaced and essential services severely compromised.

He called on allies to intensify sanctions targeting strategic Russian industries, financial institutions, and military supply chains, framing such measures as pivotal in bringing Moscow to the negotiating table.

Diplomatic sources indicate that Zelensky’s appeal coincides with preparations for multilateral talks aimed at exploring pathways for ceasefire agreements, humanitarian corridors, and long-term security guarantees for Ukraine.

Analysts note that the President’s insistence on US-led pressure reflects Kyiv’s reliance on American military aid and economic leverage to maintain a favorable balance of power amid ongoing hostilities.

Observers have highlighted that Zelensky’s public statements may also be intended to rally Western unity and increase urgency among NATO partners in supporting Ukraine’s defense and reconstruction efforts.

The President reiterated that any sustainable peace must include guarantees for Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence, with international monitoring mechanisms in place to enforce compliance.

Zelensky concluded by urging global leaders to act decisively, warning that failure to apply sufficient pressure could prolong the war, deepen humanitarian crises, and undermine broader regional stability.

International bodies continue to call for dialogue, but Zelensky’s statements underline Kyiv’s expectation that the United States take the lead in compelling Russia to end its military campaign.

The appeal comes as both sides prepare for potential rounds of negotiation, with the outcome heavily dependent on the coordination of Western diplomatic and economic initiatives.

The situation remains volatile, and experts suggest that sustained engagement and support from key allies, particularly the United States, will be critical to any meaningful resolution.
