Zulum Declares Fasting, Prayers Over Insecurity in North-East

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has urged residents to observe a voluntary statewide fast and special prayers on Monday, seeking divine intervention amid persistent security challenges.

In a broadcast on Saturday, the governor said collective supplication remained vital during a period he described as “trying and delicate” for the state. Zulum encouraged citizens to remain “calm, steadfast, and united,” stressing that faith and solidarity were necessary to overcome the ongoing difficulties.

“Collective prayer and fasting can strengthen communal faith and bring relief to the state,” he said, noting that the spiritual exercise aims to unify people in seeking Allah’s guidance for Borno and Nigeria at large.

Zulum assured residents of his administration’s continued commitment to security, stability, and public welfare. He emphasized patience, urging communities not to lose hope despite the setbacks caused by recent attacks in parts of the state.

The governor also appealed to religious scholars, traditional institutions, and community leaders to mobilize support for the fast, saying Borno has a long history of turning to collective prayers during challenging periods.

In a separate announcement, Zulum reiterated his administration’s plan to expand agricultural support programmes across the state. He said more resources would be provided to farmers to strengthen food production and reinforce economic recovery efforts.
