Gunmen attacked a police station in Zonkwa, Kaduna State, on Friday evening, killing two officers.
The attackers, believed to be attempting to free suspected vandals arrested in Kachia town, stormed the station near Kamyim Hotel in Kurmin-Bi, Zonkwa, and opened fire indiscriminately.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen mistakenly targeted the Zonkwa station, thinking the suspects were being held there.
The gunmen shot sporadically, throwing residents into panic, before fleeing the scene.
The attackers reportedly sought to rescue suspected vandals, but it was later confirmed they weren’t being held at the station.
A video showed the officers’ lifeless bodies, and residents gathered, lamenting the insecurity.
The Kaduna State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement.
