20 cattle breeders kidnapped in one week in Plateau — MACBAN

The Chairman of Miyeti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Plateau State chapter, Muhammed Nuru, has said not less than 20 of his members have been kidnapped within the last one week in the state.

Nuru, who spoke with Daily Trust on phone in Jos yesterday, said cattle breeders in the state who now live in perpetual fear can hardly go out to graze their cattle.

He said, “My members are facing serious threats in Jos South, Jos East, Bokkos and Wase LGAs.

“With the help of security agencies, we were able to recover about 500 of our cows and returned to the owners in Wase. The cows were recovered from Biu and Gwujuba in Borno and Yobe states respectfully.

“Many of my members have fled Wase Local Government Area as a result of the threat to their lives and flocks, especially in Dogoruwa, Kimbi, Penau and Kampani-Zurak.”

He commended security agencies and pleaded for more efforts in Jos South, Jos East and Bokkos local government areas where his members face threats.

He also pleaded with the Plateau State government and federal government for the release of his members from the den of kidnappers.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Jos Command, DSP Alfred Alabo said the command was not aware of the kidnap of herders.

Nuru, however, said the reports were made at the police divisions where the incidents took place.
