The Borno State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, chas threatened to flog people who refuse to support the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general elections.

Buba made the statement in a video circulating on social media on Monday during the inauguration of a campaign organised by the Tinubu City Boy Movement, a political support group backing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The commissioner said political opponents were currently being persuaded to support the APC but warned that those who continued to oppose the party would face force.

“As for some people who do not deserve us to call their names. In politics, sometimes things go smoothly, sometimes it goes with persuasion, and sometimes it goes with force.

“Right now, we are being persuasive, but we’ve noticed they are throwing jabs at us on TikTok.

“If they point fingers at us, we will point fingers at them; if they point fingers at us with malicious intent, then we will hold that finger and break it.

“This government is our government; follow us and enjoy honey. As for those who refuse to follow us, they will be flogged,” he said.

Buba also urged residents to support the APC, saying those who backed the party would benefit from government programmes and campaign materials expected to be distributed in the state.

The commissioner’s comments came amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 elections and renewed concerns over inflammatory statements by political actors.

In a separate incident, the chairman of Kuje Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, Samuel Shekwolo, was also reported to have warned residents who did not support the APC to leave the council ahead of the 2027 elections.

Shekwolo, in a video circulating on social media, linked his position to what he described as developmental projects being undertaken by the Tinubu administration and the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, in Kuje.

The recent statements have also revived memories of the controversy surrounding Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District.

Fadahunsi was criticised over comments concerning members of the Accord Party ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun State.

The remarks drew condemnation from political groups and civil society organisations, while Governor Ademola Adeleke called for the senator’s arrest and investigation.

Fadahunsi later denied threatening violence, saying his comments had been misunderstood and that he was referring to defeating the Accord Party through votes rather than physically attacking its members.

He was subsequently invited and questioned by the Osun State Police Command over the comments.

The latest remarks by the Borno commissioner have further raised concerns about the tone of political campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections, with fears that threats and inflammatory rhetoric could heighten political tension and undermine voters’ freedom to choose their preferred candidates and parties.
