Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the nine Local Government Areas of the Ukwa Ngwa extraction have called on Hon. Barr. Olugu Kalu Ugba (Isibu Bu Mba) to contest the 2027 governorship election in Abia State.
The call was made during a stakeholders’ meeting where party leaders and representatives from the nine LGAs unanimously expressed confidence in his leadership capacity.
They pledged their support toward mobilizing party faithful across the Ukwa Ngwa bloc to reposition the PDP and reclaim power in the state in the next electoral cycle.
While speakers at the gathering, the stakeholders stressed the importance of unity, grassroots mobilization, and strategic engagement ahead of the 2027 polls.
According to them, the Ukwa Ngwa political bloc remains a formidable force within the party and must play a decisive role in rebuilding the PDP’s strength across the state.
The only serving PDP member in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Solomon Akpulonu, also threw his weight behind the call, urging party faithful to rally behind Olugu Ugba’s leadership and vision for the state.
Barr. Olugu Kalu Ugba, a former Deputy Chief of Staff to the former Governor of Abia State, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, is an international legal practitioner and a member in good standing of both the Nigerian and Ghanaian Bar Associations.
However, responding to the appeal, Chief Olugu Kalu Ugba welcomed the stakeholders and thanked them for the confidence reposed in him.
He accepted their call to contest the governorship seat, assuring party members that the PDP remains determined to regain leadership in Abia State.
He emphasized that the task ahead would require unity, dedication, and collective commitment from all party stakeholders, noting that “all hands must be on deck” to achieve the mission of returning the state to the PDP.
