Valentine Ozigbo, a former Anambra governorship candidate, has stated that Peter Obi will not contest under the Labour Party in 2027.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) revealed that Ozigbo, a close ally of Obi, believes that the Labour Party has no future in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, he expressed doubts about LP’s viability as a platform for Obi’s next contest.

Ozigbo had previously resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2022 to support Obi’s presidential contest.

He later defected from the Labour Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in February 2025.

In his resignation letter, Ozigbo cited his commitment to Anambra State’s progress as his reason for leaving LP.

He also mentioned that he informed Obi of his defection as a mark of respect for his leadership.

During the interview, Ozigbo reiterated that Obi will not contest under the Labour Party in 2027.

“I don’t see a future for the Labour Party,” Ozigbo stated during the televised discussion.

“I am happy to live with that assertion, and I would like to be proven wrong,” he added.

Ozigbo noted that Obi has changed parties several times throughout his political career.

He recalled that Obi moved from ANPP to APGA, then PDP, before contesting under LP in 2023.

He emphasized that Obi will likely choose another party if he decides to contest in 2027.

“I can almost guarantee that if he wishes to contest, it won’t be under Labour Party,” Ozigbo said.

“I am not his spokesperson, but I have been part of many discussions about political coalitions,” he added.

He expressed optimism that a broader coalition could emerge before the next presidential contest.

Ozigbo’s remarks have sparked debates among LP supporters and political analysts.

Many LP loyalists argue that the party remains strong after Obi’s 2023 contest.

However, Ozigbo’s statements suggest that discussions about Obi’s political future are ongoing.

Since his 2023 contest, Obi has remained an influential figure in Nigerian politics.

Political observers believe that Obi’s influence extends beyond the Labour Party.

Some analysts suggest that he might contest under a new coalition in 2027.

Ozigbo’s comments align with speculations that political realignments are underway before the next contest.

Supporters of LP believe the party can still serve as a viable platform for Obi’s contest.

Ozigbo, however, insists that political realities may push Obi towards another party.

He emphasized that Nigeria’s political system favors coalitions and alliances over single-party dominance.

According to him, the Labour Party lacks the structure to win a presidential contest without external support.

He suggested that Obi’s political strategy might involve forming alliances with other opposition figures.

Ozigbo’s departure from LP to APC raised questions about his political motivations.

Some critics argue that he left LP because of personal political ambitions rather than ideological differences.

Ozigbo, however, maintains that his decision was based on a broader vision for Nigeria’s future.

He insists that political survival requires adaptability and strategic partnerships.

Obi’s supporters remain hopeful that he will contest and challenge the ruling party in 2027.

Many believe that his 2023 contest demonstrated his growing influence in national politics.

Despite losing the election, Obi gained significant support across different regions of Nigeria.

This has fueled speculations that he will contest again in 2027 under a new political structure.

Analysts argue that Obi’s political movements will depend on Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

Some believe he might rejoin PDP, while others think a new coalition could emerge.

The possibility of a merger between opposition parties remains a topic of discussion.

Obi’s track record shows that he prioritizes strategy over party loyalty when deciding to contest.

He has previously switched parties to improve his chances in elections.

If Ozigbo’s predictions are accurate, Obi’s next contest could reshape Nigeria’s political environment.

The 2027 contest is expected to be highly competitive, with multiple candidates from different parties.

Political stakeholders are already strategizing on how to strengthen their platforms ahead of the election.

As discussions on coalitions continue, Obi’s supporters await his official stance on the 2027 contest.

Neither Obi nor his spokespersons have confirmed his plans for the next presidential contest.

Ozigbo’s statements, however, have intensified speculations about potential political shifts before 2027.

If Obi chooses to contest, his decision will significantly impact Nigeria’s political trajectory.

The coming months will reveal whether he will remain with LP or seek a new platform.
