Supreme Court rules on Rivers Assembly crisis, sparks outrage

The Supreme Court has delivered a ruling on the Rivers State House of Assembly crisis.
Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, an APC chieftain, condemned the ruling as a “Black Friday” for Nigeria’s democracy.
He described the judgment as a declaration of war against Rivers State and the death of the judiciary.
The Supreme Court ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to halt the release of funds to Rivers State.
The ruling stated that funds would only resume when a properly constituted House of Assembly is in place.
The court further directed Martin Amaewhule and all elected members to resume sitting immediately.

He argued that the Supreme Court ignored the fact that Amaewhule’s faction had defected to the APC.

“For the Supreme Court to stop Rivers’ funds exposes a bigger political agenda,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Wike reacted by accusing Governor Fubara of committing an impeachable offense.
The former Rivers State Governor insisted that Fubara had violated constitutional procedures.
“It is unheard of for three lawmakers to control an entire state assembly,” Wike said.
He claimed that the Supreme Court had restored order and ended impunity in Rivers State.
Despite the ruling, the Coalition of Opposition Lawmakers expressed support for Fubara.
They assured that governance in Rivers State would continue without disruption.
A spokesperson for the coalition stated that Fubara remained in control.
“The Supreme Court has spoken, but governance will not stop,” the spokesperson said.
He maintained that the executive arm of government remained functional.
He reassured the people that development projects would continue.
