Troops under Operation Hadin Kai have recorded major breakthroughs in the ongoing military campaign against Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Borno State.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that several terrorists were neutralised in recent coordinated ground and air operations, with troops also recovering dangerous explosives and weapons from insurgent strongholds.

This was confirmed in a statement released in Abuja by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command Operation HADIN KAI.

In one of the most significant finds, troops discovered and recovered about 60 heavily primed Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) at a bridge linking Marte and Dikwa, two volatile towns in the northern part of Borno State.

The army said the IEDs were believed to have been planted by terrorists intending to launch large-scale attacks and destroy critical national infrastructure in the area.

The timely recovery, according to military authorities, prevented what could have been a devastating incident in the region.

In another successful operation, troops on a fighting patrol along the Fulatari axis in Gubio Local Government Area captured a terrorist fighter.

They also recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and a large cache of ammunition.

Similarly, another combat team patrolling Mussini in Ngala Local Government Area came in contact with fleeing insurgents and engaged them with superior firepower.

The terrorists reportedly scattered in disarray during the exchange.

During the pursuit, soldiers recovered more AK-47 rifles, jerrycans of premium motor spirit (PMS), motorcycles, and insurgent uniforms.

These recoveries, according to the army, will further hinder the operational capacity of the fleeing terrorists.

Meanwhile, troops also engaged terrorists around the Salekwa area in Mafa Local Government Area. In the encounter, several insurgents were neutralised, and others managed to escape.

Soldiers recovered additional AK-47 rifles, loaded magazines, and the body of one slain terrorist during the follow-up exploitation of the area.

Captain Kovangiya noted that the troops’ morale remains high, and they are operating with continued aerial support from the Air Component Command of Operation Hadin Kai, along with close coordination with other security agencies and stakeholders.

The Military High Command has since commended the troops for their gallantry and resilience, reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to restoring peace in the North-East and facilitating the return of socio-economic activities to the war-ravaged region.

Operation Hadin Kai was launched in April 2021 to intensify counterterrorism efforts and dismantle Boko Haram and ISWAP networks, particularly in Borno, Yobe, and parts of Adamawa States.

The continued success of these operations signals sustained pressure on the insurgents, who have long destabilised the North-East, displacing millions and killing thousands.
