Nollywood actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot has stirred debate after revealing how he allegedly financed aspects of his time in public office.
Speaking on The Spills and Thrills Show, Elliot who represented Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly from 2015 claimed he relied on personal income from his film career to support his responsibilities while in office.
“I used my personal funds from film to run the office while I was serving as a Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly,” he said.
According to him, the funds covered office expenses, monthly cash assistance running into millions of naira, and over ₦70 million in medical support for constituents, including surgeries.
His statement has since triggered mixed reactions online. Critics have questioned the claim, pointing to the allowances typically available to lawmakers and noting his reduced presence in Nollywood since entering politics especially following his May 2026 primary loss.
Supporters, however, have praised the revelation as a sign of dedication and sacrifice, aligning with his stance that politicians should be judged based on tangible impact rather than assumptions.
The discussion continues to trend, highlighting broader concerns about transparency, accountability, and the realities of political office in Nigeria.
