Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has dismissed claims by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe that President Bola Tinubu will lose the 2027 presidential election.
Kalu was reacting to Abaribe’s remarks on Channels Television’s Politics Today—where the Abia South senator argued that Tinubu “never won” the 2023 election and would be rejected by Nigerians in 2027 due to economic hardship.
Though, Kalu described the position as disconnected from political reality.
“I just want to briefly address what my brother Abaribe said on Channels TV that President Tinubu has already failed the election on arrival. I don’t think so,” Kalu said.
“I have not seen the momentum opposition will be able to challenge him. The election is Tinubu versus Tinubu, and that is it. That is the truth. Whether you like it or not, I’m a politician of 30-something years and I know how we play it,” he added.
Kalu noted that the opposition lacks the structure and momentum to challenge Tinubu, citing the President’s economic direction as a break from past failures.
Senator Kalu highlighted Tinubu’s efforts to build a sustainable economy, saying, “This is the first time a President will build an economy by every parameter.”
He acknowledges economic hardship but attributed it to rebuilding a previously unsustainable system.
While speaking on corruption, the former governor of Abia State backed Aliko Dangote’s allegations, calling for tougher laws and investigations into NMDPRA boss Ahmed Farouk’s alleged $7 million education expenses in Switzerland.
He linked Nigeria’s security issues to economic collapse and values crisis, urging collective action.
Kalu rejected judicial authority despite past incarceration, praising Nigeria’s judiciary as “one of the best in the world.”
He advised Tinubu to curb dollar usage in Nigeria’s economy, while promoting naira adoption.
