The White House has dismissed suggestions that the United States is considering the use of nuclear weapons against Iran, following controversial remarks by Vice President JD Vance.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, the White House said Vance’s comments about possible military options had been misinterpreted. It stressed that there was no implication of a nuclear strike in his remarks.
The clarification came after Vance stated that US forces possess capabilities they have “so far haven’t decided to use” in enforcing an ultimatum issued by President Donald Trump.
Reacting sharply to speculation online, the White House wrote: “Literally nothing @VP said here ‘implies’ this…”, rejecting claims that nuclear options were under consideration.
The response followed a post from an account linked to former Vice President Kamala Harris, which suggested that Vance’s comments hinted at the potential use of nuclear weapons.
The exchange comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, with growing concerns over possible military escalation in the region.
While the US has maintained pressure on Iran through diplomatic and military channels, officials insist that nuclear action is not part of current considerations.
