Buhari tells IGP to hand over to most senior officer & leave

President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly ordered the Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu to hand over to the most senior officer and leave office Tuesday night.

This was disclosed in a publication by The Nation Newspaper.

Adamu, it could be recalled, completed his 35 years service mandated for civil servants on Monday February 1, 2021, and was expected to have handed over.

The Inspector-General of Police, however, in expectation of tenure elongation, failed to vacate office.

The report stated that he was told of his fate after President Buhari arrived Abuja after a four-day trip to his hometown—Daura in Katsina State on Tuesday, February 2.

After receiving Buhari at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja, a s source told the media source:

“The IGP has been asked by the President to handover. Adamu was waiting for the presidential directive.

“He would have left on Monday but it will be discourteous to have exited without a clear-cut directive from the President and Commander-In-Chief.

“He may likely handover to the most senior deputy inspector-general of Police.

“I am aware Adamu was yesterday putting finishing touches to his handover note.”

Speculation are rife that AIG Zanna Ibrahim will be appointed as IGP in his stead.
