Lionel Messi named IFFHS CONMEBOL player of the decade

Argentina and Barcelona ace, Lionel Messi is widely considered to be the greatest player in the history of the sport, with the striker winning numerous professional and individual honours during his career so far, including a record of six Ballon d’Or awards.
However, Messi has been named as the CONMEBOL Player of the Decade for 2011-2020 by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS), another staggering achievement for Argentine football maestro.
Messi is been trailed by the Brazilian and Paris Saint-Germain talisman, Neymar while his fellow countryman, Dani Alves finished third to round-up the top three list.
It would come as no surprise to many that Messi was named as CONMEBOL Player of the decade considering that he has been a dominant force in the period between 2011-20202, outscoring all of his South American counterparts by a mile while also leading Barcelona to a number of titles and honours.
Neymar meanwhile while not living up to the expectations placed on him has still excelled both for club and country, putting on brilliant performances for Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Brazil during the period.
Alves too deserves of his place in the top-three list considering that he played a key role in the success of Barcelona, Juventus and PSG while also leading Brazil to the Copa America in the given time frame.
