Two officers believed to have aided in exam malpractices in Lagos and Oyo, two states, South West Nigeria have been asked to go by Nigeria’s secondary school exam body, National Examinations Council, NECO.
The body made this disclosure while also releasing its 2023 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, SSCE, showing a decline in the level of examination related malpractices when compared to the previous years.
Registrar/Chief Executive NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi disclosed this while at the Council’s headquarters in Mina, North Central Nigeria.
“Two Supervisors, one each in Oyo and Lagos states have been blacklisted for poor supervision, inability to control the candidates, and for aiding and abating examination malpractices”, Wushishi said.
According him, exam malpractices is down by 25 percent compared to the previous year.
“The number of candidates booked for various forms of malpractice is 8, 518, as against 11,419 in the year, 2022 which shows a decline in the number of malpractice cases by 25.4%”, he said.
Exam centers were also caught in the nefarious acts in the year under review.
According to the Registrar, two centers, one each in Kaduna and Ogun states in whole cases, were involved.
He added that NECO will continue to evolve strategies to improve on its examinations to meet global education standards.
In one other centre in Borno state, Professor Wushishi said a school was blacklisted for aiding and abetting by sharing messages through Whatsapp by the candidates.
