Ex-Niger Delta militants allege stealing of allowances by Nigeria’s amnesty program interim manager

The ex-militants in the Presidential Amnesty Program (PAP) are alleging that the Interim Administrator, General Barry Ndiomu Rtd, has seized their allowances and halted payment to them.

Nigeria’s federal government in 2008 reached agreement with restive youth in the oil rich Niger Delta to submit arms for amnesty which also incorporate payment of allowances.

But the seizure, allegedly by Ndiomu further led to accusations of vindictiveness, abuse of power, and corruption within the program.

Leaders within the Phase 2 Amnesty Programme have criticized General Ndiomu for various wrongdoings, including tribalism and ineptitude.

The Mayor of Urhobo land, Akpodoro, has vowed to take legal action against General Ndiomu and has called on the National Security Adviser and President to intervene and replace him with a more competent and impartial administrator.

There are also concerns about the influence of Major O.M. Akpor within the program, with calls for the Chief of Army Staff to reassign him to ensure a more effective administration.

The ex-militants are emphasizing the importance of transparency, accountability, and fair treatment of all beneficiaries within the Amnesty Programme.
