Labour union, party wing Strife escalates in Nigeria

Strife between Nigeria’s Labour Party, LP, and its parent body, Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, appears to have spilled into street making it a free for all after the party made a pointed riposte at the union leader on Saturday.

Led by Julius Abure, who himself has been under attack lately, LP has asked NLC President, Joe Ajero, to face managing the union and leave intra-party matters to the party cheftain.

Ajaero had accused the Labour Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) of lack of transparency, mischief, and poor handling of party affairs.

On the other hand, the Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiorah Ifoh, defended Barrister Abure, stating that he has been transparent and fair in managing the party’s affairs.

The statement from Ifoh highlights past disagreements between the NLC and the Labour Party, including issues related to party conventions and leadership decisions.

The Labour Party asserts its independence from the NLC, emphasizing that the party has its own structure and should not be unduly influenced by external organizations.

The statement also criticizes the NLC for alleged interference in the party’s internal affairs and questions the motives behind the NLC’s actions.

Overall, the passage describes a complex political situation involving disagreements, accusations, and power struggles between the NLC and the Labour Party in Nigeria.
