World Cup qualifier: Nigeria defeat Liberia 2-0 [updated]

Nigeria’s Super Eagles are leading their Liberian counterparts 1-0 at the ongoing World Cup qualifier playing in Tangier, Algeria.

Victor Osimhen converted from the spot giving Nigeria a 1-0 lead over Liberia after Kelechi Iheanacho was fouled by the Liberian goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, Odion Ighalo is not on the bench, having had few training sessions with the team since his arrival on Thursday.

This is how the Super Eagles lined up this evening against Liberia in the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifier in Tangier.

As at half Time in Tangier Victor Osimhen’s lone goal for the Super Eagles going into the break.

Nigeria had chances to improve on the lead, but Liberia have not played badly either.

Ahmed Musa scored a stoppage time penalty against Liberia, converting from the spot after Victor Osimhen was brought down by the Liberian goalkeeper.

Musa has now scored 16 goals for the Super Eagles in 102 appearances.

At full timer, Super Eagles defeated Liberia 2-0 to stay top of Group C with 12 points.

However, a Cape Verde 2-1 victory over Central African Republic, meant Nigeria will have to win, or at least draw at Teslim Balogun on Tuesday if they are to qualify for the final round of the World Cup qualifiers in March.
