Another Nigerian state set to host squash classics with ultra-modern new facility

Kwara, a state in Nigeria, is on the verge of solidifying its position as a top host for Squash Classics with the impending completion of an ultra-modern squash facility.
Under the leadership of the state governor, Mall. Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq, meticulous efforts are being made to finalize what could potentially be the first state-of-the-art squash court in the entire West Africa sub-region.
Historically, Squash Classics events in Nigeria have predominantly been held in Lagos.
However, with the introduction of a brand-new 10-court squash facility, Kwara is gearing up to make a significant impact in the world of squash, with aspirations to host an international event that could potentially feature non-competitive participation in the Paris 2014 Olympics.
Coach Bola Mogaji, (pictured second from right) the executive chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission (KSC), on Wednesday in Ilorin, expressed the governor’s strong interest in hosting an international Squash Classics event in Kwara.
While specific details of the planned event were not disclosed, Mogaji emphasized that it would be a substantial undertaking, unlike anything previously witnessed in the sub-region.
The state government’s commitment to sports development is evident through its unprecedented investment in the sector, ranking sports as the fourth priority in Kwara after Health, Education, and Works.
According to the chairman, the governor perceives sports as an industry and views it as a cost-effective platform for investing resources and engaging youth to yield maximum benefits.
This strategic approach not only underscores the state’s dedication to promoting sports excellence but also highlights the significant role that sports can play in fostering youth development and overall societal well-being.
As Kwara prepares to unveil its cutting-edge squash facility and potentially host prestigious international events, it is poised to elevate its status as a premier destination for Squash Classics in the region, signaling a promising future for sports enthusiasts and athletes alike.
