CCT Arrains Godsday Orubebe for bribery, false assets declaration

Elder Godsday Orubebe will be tried at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) over allegation bordering on bribery and false declaration of assets.

Mr. Orubebe was the immediate past Minister of the Niger Delta under the former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

Mr. Orubebe gained popularity when he interrupted the collation of votes in Abuja by the Independent National Election Commission [INEC] during the presidential elections of March 28.

Mr Orubebe had accused INEC chairman, Attahiru Jega of intentionally falsifying the election results to favour the then All Progressives Congress [APC] candidate, Muhammadu Buhari and tried to disrupt further announcement of the Election results.

He will be arraigned on four counts of false declaration of assets, solicitation of, and acceptance of bribe.  

According to the charges, on two separate occasions Mr. Orubebe provided fabricated records of his financial assets to the authorities, contrary to requirement for provision of accurate declaration of assets.  

He is also charged with soliciting bribe from a certain Dr. Jonathan Alota to award contract to his company, Chemtronics Nigeria and accepted a payment of N20 million from same.

The former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs will be arraigned on November 9th at the tribunal.
